Biarritz became renowned in 1854 when the Empress Eugenie, the wife of Napolean III, built a Palace on the beach (now The Hôtel du Palais). By the early 1900’s Biarritz was on the map as a tourist destination, popular with North Americans and Europeans. Today Biarritz attracts visitors from all over the world.

The once Napoleonic palace is now an iconic hotel that sits on the Grande Plage. This beautiful 19th century hotel has seen many celebrities through it’s doors. With its direct access to the beach and sea view swimming pool Hotel du Palais is unique in the region. Sea-Lifts have been offering Hotel du Palais guests our 1st Class services since we started the business. Our Limousine and Viano services  are a popular mode of transport with the hotel guests. We can organize a taxi to Hotel du Palais Biarritz from Biarritz airport or Train station. If you are flying to Toulouse Airport, Bordeaux Airport, Pau Airport, Lourdes airport or taking a train to Gare de Bayonne and require transport to l’Hotel du Palais the we would be delighted to organise your airport transfer, executive transport or coach.

The town itself is a pleasure to wander. The focal point of the town is the Place de Clemenceau where you will find cafes, bars, Galeries Lafayette, patisseries and of course the famous chocolateries; Maison Adam and Henriet. Before your return Biarritz airport transfer be sure to pick up a box of chocolates. Another focal point of the town is the market; produce from around the Paye Basque is brought and sold here daily. The market is ‘a must’ in Biarritz, surrounding the market are Spanish style tapas bars and Basque style cafes. Head up the Rue Gambetta away from the market and after 5/10mins you will have the best view in Biarritz. Looking down on La Plage Cote des Basques, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and across the Pyrenees, the view is spectacular. While your there then why not have a glass of sangria at the 100 Marches bar, a lively outdoor bar overlooking the sea. Perfect on a warm summers evening. There are some great places further down the coast to eat and drink, unless you’re a hardy walker then you’ll probably need a taxi or minibus. Contact Sea-Lifts for all your transport requirements in Biarritz.

"The most fashionable and most frequented resort in south west France. The setting is magnificent, with Atlantic rollers breaking against the rocks and reefs, impressive cliffs, a small port, and superb bathing beaches." Quoted from "The Green Guide - Atlantic Coast" published by Michelin Travel Publications which rates Biarritz as a "highly recommended" seaside resort.

"One place which completely blows me away is Biarritz, which has a stunningly beautiful location beside the Atlantic, lovely architecture. It's a city of rugby which means a culture of people which in turn means a culture of food" - Raymond Blanc, owner of Le Manoir de Quatre Saisons, asked about his favourite city in France (source: Mail on Sunday 24.1.08).

"I know not of a more charming or magnificent place than Biarritz… " - Victor Hugo

 Biarritz Tourist Information

Biarritz is a prestigious town that lies approximately a 30 minute transfer North from the Spanish/Basque border. Biarritz is quite unique as it has a rocky coastline separated with beautiful golden beaches and as you look south across the Bay of Biscay you will be looking at the French and Spanish Pyrenean foothills. The most prominent and closest mountain (technically not quite a mountain is it only reaches up to 950m) is La Rhune. You will see La Rhune from many places in Biarritz as it looms up from the once flooded land; now know as the French Paye Basque. If you would like to go up La Rhune then contact Sea-Lifts and we can organise one of our drivers to pick you up in Biarritz and transfer you to the foot of the “mountain”. It takes about 2 hours to hike up or you can take the mountain train that leaves the small town of Ascain every half an hour.

There are many beaches in Biarritz many of which offer some world class waves for surfing. Surfing has been popular in Biarritz since 1957 and since has become one of the surfing hubs of Europe. The main beaches are as follows starting at the South: Ilbiarritz, Milady, Marbella, Plage de Cote Basque, Vieux Port, Grande Plage, Miramar. When you head north of the lighthouse (Biarritz le Phare), the coastline changes dramatically. From the rocky points of Biarritz to the wide straight beaches of ‘La Chambre d’Amour’ and the many beaches of Anglet. From here the beach stretches north almost unbroken, through Hossegor and Les Landes for 200km until Arcachon near Bordeaux. Having been running airport transfers and taxis in the region for many years we know the Biarritz coastline and mountains very well. Leave the hire car at the airport and let us handle your transport requirements.
