Just South of Capbreton lies a small Vineyard ‘Vin de Sable’. It is famous due to the grapes growing on the sand dunes and is a popular destination for tourists and wine tasters.
Capbreton is famous for it’s excellent surfing conditions. There are man beaches to suit all surfers. From the fast barreling waves of VVF and La Piste to more sheltered spots like Santocha and Le Prevent. North of Capbreton habour is another beach called La Sud, the surf here works best when the waves everywhere else are huge.

Capbreton is a commune of approximately 7500 inhabitants. And lies in the Landes department in Aquitaine in the South West of France very close to the Spanish border and just after that is San Sebastian.
30 km South of Capbreton is Biarritz and 170 km North of Capbreton is Bordeaux. Capbreton joins Hossegor to the North of the town which then joins Seignosse.
Capreton is the oldest harbor in Les Landes and during the middle ages the ‘Capbretonnais’ harpooned whales, which can still be found all over the golf of Gascogne.
Every Christmas eve a huge pile of wood was set on fire “La Torelle” between the Church and the Marie. This was a tradition that dates back to an event that happened late one evening in the year 930. Norman looters sailed close to Capbreton but the Capbretonnais sat and danced around the fire with sticks. The shadows looked like a big group of powerful folk and therefore the Normans bypassed Capbreton and went straight into Bayonne to cause havoc.
