Dive Sites near Hamata
Sha’ab Claudio
Sha’ab Claudio is one of the best-known reefs in the Fury Shoals reef system. This perfect spot is a photographer’s paradise. The square reef has a south side full of caves close to the mooring. The cave is very light due to a depth and you will often come face to face with blue spotted stingrays which lie on the sandy bottom. Gorgeous hard coral garden welcomes you to the west side at 22m. On the north side, the passage splits whereas the east side is home to small yet decorative coral blocks.
Sha’ab Sataya (Dolphin reef)
One of the most popular dives is situated south of Fury Shoal. This huge lagoon is a common place for a night dive. Surrounded by an oval-shaped reef home to bottlenose dolphins. The outer wall of Sataya offers amazing drift diving with turtles.
Abu Galauwa
Abu Galauwa has a reef formation which is split into four. The main attraction at the north end of the reef is a 17m long wreck which sunk in the 1980s. At 18m find the wreckage of an American sailing boat. There are not a lot of corals, but this is a treat for divers looking to explore the marine life. Another highlight is the middle of the reef. There is a chance to encounter sharks, rays and huge groupers. South you can find spectacular fire and soft corals. With a maximum depth of 24m, you find shipwreck of a sunk yacht at the end.
Sha’ab Malahi
One of the most visited reefs in the Fury Shoals reef system along with Sha’ab Claudio. This is an explorer’s dream. Situated directly next to the boat the main attraction here is the southern part of the reef. Dive to the west and east side close to the reef. You will see every kind of Red Sea fish here as well as large coral blocks with a fantastic cover of hard and soft corals. This is one not to be missed.
