Dive Sites near Luxor
Amphoras
Southwest of Tower lies Amphoras; at a depth of around 12m a sandy slope begins and has some pinnacles covered with gorgeous coral of numerous species giving huge schools of glassfish shelter. You can see the stock of the original anchor of the ship with inscriptions as well as fragments of the amphoras from the wreck, at 25m. Diving south towards the drop-off you will find some beautiful large gorgonian fans.
Elphinstone
The colourful reef full of soft corals is a must-see site for experienced divers! Most types of sea life can be seen here such as tuna, turtles, dolphins and moray eels. The reef is most famous for its sharks with thresher sharks and silky sharks being able to be spotted all year round.
Ras Atik
The name comes from a large rock formation on the cliff above the dive site. It is a drift dive by boat, or a beach dive with a short swim from the south end of Marsa Bareka. The steeply arched cave opening is filled with silver sweepers. It provides a dramatic frame for diver silhouettes and is a popular site for underwater photographers.
Ras Mohammed Wall
This spot is for advanced divers only. A distance of almost a km, it extends from the eel garden in the north to the Shark Observatory in the south. Above the surface is a sheer limestone cliff with a fringing reef below. Ras Mohammed is the masterpiece of wall dives.
