Town

Nerja lies on Spain’s southern coast at the eastern tip of the Costa del Sol, 50km from the city of Malaga. It is a seaside resort of sandy coves sheltered by the impressive Sierra de Almijara mountains. It is an hour and a half drive from Granada and the ski resort of Sierra Nevada. One of the town’s most impressive attractions is the Balcon de Europa (the Balcony of Europe) a promenade stretching across the edge of a soaring cliff top with spectacular panoramic views of the Mediterranean coastline.

Beaches

There are 16km of beaches, from small secluded coves to large sandy areas. The main beaches are: Burriana, the most popular with some great beach restaurants (chiringuitos) including “Ayo” famed for its paella; Calahonda, small and sandy just to the left of the Balcon de Europa; Caraceill, between Burriana and Calahonda; Carabeo, a natural cove surrounded by enormous rocks; El Chucho, a sheltered, sandy beach last in the promenade to the west of Nerja; El Playazo; El Salon; La Caletilla; Maro; and Torrecilla.

Places to visit

The Cueves de Nerja (the Nerja Caves) are just 3km outside of Nerja boasting underground caverns with stalagmites, stalactites and tall columns.  The caves incorporate the world’s widest column, the grand centre column in the Sala del Cataclismo (Cataclysm Hall), which reaches a height of 32 metres.  Each July, a festival of flamenco music and dance is held inside the caves.  In the mountains behind Nerja, there are some beautifully preserved villages including Frigiliana, which has panoramic views of Nerja and the sea.

Golf

The nearest golf course is Baveria, about 15 minutes drive away near Torre del Mar. Añoreta is the next nearest towards Malaga.  There is also Los Moriscos about 40 minutes east of Nerja at Salobrena. Sea-Lifts can meet all of your transportation needs for any golfing trip you might have planned!
